I ask myself this question every time I go on a tilt run. Honestly, I don’t think 2000 OTB is ever going to happen for me, but it’s nonetheless a goal. I know that plenty of younger, more talented, and harder-working players have tried and failed. That’s fine with me, and I accept that as a fact. My true goal is to reach the highest level I can. How do I know when I have reached it? I doubt I will at the time, but chasing a goal that is plausibly obtainable yet out of reach seems to be my best way to push myself to that point. That’s why I’m shooting for 2000. If I don’t get there, that’s okay. I enjoy the game, and I find new appreciation for the minute nuances of the game the more I work.

If I never gain another rating point, I will be happy but not content. I find joy in the game and the grind to improve. I am going to continue to pour my time and energy into improving. There is always another step and something new to learn. I’m not wasting my time because I find joy in what I’m doing. Conversely, I’m not content with where I am at today. So, I’m going to continue to push myself and grind every day for an intangible end. The goal is not the end, it’s the journey.

Hopefully, this doesn’t sound too sappy. I just thought it would be good to put my thoughts to paper so to speak.
